Last week I went to a talk called mini blab
at deaf institution in Manchester this
is the first time I have ever bin to one of theses talks what I was expecting
was a bunch of designers talking about them self like how they became a
designer and were they came from all though it is interesting the best thing
about this talk they were given a topic and the topic was “things iv seen” it
was nice In a way because each designer described in there own way things they
seen in there average life style some of there talks were quite funny one woman
was talking about here hatred with brown bananas? But the one I enjoyed the
most was a guy hew used to live in the peek districted and has a passion for hiking
up and around mountains, now he lives in Manchester but still has a passion for
the peek districted scene so he began to take picture of the Manchester land scape
to get an sense of the peek district, example was a zoomed in shot of the ground
it was a nice green textured almost looks like a over head birds eye shot of
field like area with the higher and lower contours but as he began to zoom out,
it was a photo of some sick with a bin next to it , but the thing he was trying
to say well I hope he was trying to say that there is some thing nice to look
at when you look hard enough

team work
I wont to dedicate this post to team work,
working with the compotation brief we christened “mayo police” it was
interesting and is very different in the way I work, strait from the start of the project to the
very end , at the start of the project when coming up with ideas is normally
quite tricky and a bit of a challenge but working with some one it becomes much easier. So when we
had a bit of an idea and bounced it between us both adding more and more layers
to become a good idea the best thing about are 2 man team is that we had a mix
of different talent for instance jack has a good eye for creating a good
narrative with in the story board and I consider my self as a good builder , so
really we could be a little ambitious and we settled on creating a stop motion ,
as time when on and we got the build and the story board nailed and began to
stop motioning it was nice in the way when we got to the point were we had to
stop motion one at a time when one of use got tired the other carried and it on
and vise versa in a way the momentum
stayed at a steady pace so we could work much longer and the quality of the work was much better
I have definitely learned from this experience and using people that have different strengths in there field makes the over all out come more stronger

chapman
When starting a new project
I always try to stay away from stop motion I always say stop motion is a long
and tedious process but more I try to get away from it I still end up doing it
and enjoying it for example my sonic brief, pop up college promotion video and
now my latest one mayo police, through out the process YES the process is long painful
tedious tiring but the end thing is always rewording especially with mayo
police, there was a lot of tricky shots and a lot of thing went wrong but we
managed to plow thru it and I am quite happy with the finial out come, whiles
doing it me and jack wonted some tips of stop motion experts so I emailed, rang
and emailed again to the Chapmen Entertainment, unfortunately no reply but in
the future if I don’t do a stop motion I still wouldn’t mind going to see them
so I will keep trying, on the other hand jack try to communicate to a stop
motion company in Manchester but unfortunately they didn’t reply nether, all
though stop motion is a tricky field to work in I am definitely interested and
would definitely do it again

taking pics in poland
When we went to Poland last
week it was running side by side with the project we are working on, which is a
stop motion peace that is based around world war two so it has to look old and
unconditioned street , a nice thing
about the visit to Poland most of the buildings were exactly like the buildings
we needed to refer to when making are street scene it was nice to get the feel
of the building up close so when we began to create the set we can at least
under stand the style of the buildings im not saying the building in
Poland were grimy it was the style of buildings were looking, some of the
buildings we found had some nice architecture and all most look like buildings
from what you see in world war two photos
After coming back to this
blog a coup weeks after when we have created the set I don’t think we would of
achieved it with out looking at the buildings up close,
Poland studio visit
When we went to Poland last
week we visited 2 studios , unfortunately they weren’t moving image studios,
they were graphic influenced, despite of this the work they produced was quite
creative and fun out of the 2 studios the one I preferred the most was the
first one we went to which was called Mill studio it was a small studio with 4
members of staff , the work they produced was quite nice with in it was a mix
of computer graphics and hands on photography, it seamed like they properly
understood there audience for instance one of there projects was to create a
small booklet for children to explain the operations they might face, the book
they made was nice in its self but one of there original ideas they had was to
use a form of paper that was easy to color in for the children to better under
stand the booklet and the operation
Another nice thing that was
nice and don’t really hear in other studio but I think this because there new
in the industry, is that they were explaining problems they faced like creating
contracts, creating things for friends, explaining on what to show in a job
opportunity, and how to show it,
They other studio we went
to was called Para Studio nice thing about this studio they created a nice stop
motion peace and for there first attempted it was pretty good but the problem
was when we was asking question about it there was a bit of a language barrier
so it was hard to get answers,
whitworth art gallery
A while back we visited a gallery in
Manchester called whitworth art gallery the expedition that was shown at that
time was an expedition called dark matters, shadow, technology
They was a wide range of interesting peace
of work the first one I was drawn to was a interactive sculpture that was made
up of hundreds of small wooden stakes that where cut at an angle and was
attached to a camera, the camera was used as a motion detector and when an
object was past in front of it the angled peace of wood arranged them selves to
portray the object all most like a mirror, the reason why im attracted to this
peace is im quite interested on how things work and how the mechanism works on
the in side and this peace is so nice and elegant that the knowledge of the
making of it might ruin the esthetics of it
As we exited the gallery we walked through
a room with a huge projection screen almost like a cinema screen it was projecting
a snow camera which was a camera that projected thousands / millions of white
dots, the white dots where attracted to the light like the lighter parts of the
face lighter parts of you body and the white dots clotted to gather and revealed
almost simple shaped silo wet of the person

tate
Last week when we visited Liverpool for the
zee expedition we also visited Liverpool Tate gallery, it wasn’t really engaging
as it is normally, I think we just mist an expedition or we when just before
one but I did find some hidden gems that I found really interesting the first
one I found was a moving sculpture it consisted of a bunch of tools like hammer’s,
saws, screw drivers, motors and so on when you pressed the button they begin to
interact with each other all most like a domino affect so when the motor starts
up the saw starts to move side to side and raises the hammer and begins to tap
the metal and the effects keep repeating. I like the mechanics of how thing
work and in the past I have opened things up to see how they work but this
peace is quite nice in the way its open and reveals the mechanism , its quite
interesting in the way the each object relies on each other to make it move and
also the irony of using the tool to create the sculpture, “unfortunately my memory
card is not revealing any images but I will keep trying to find out the name of
the peace ” another peace that I thought was interesting I know it has bin done
a million times but I think it has a lot of potential it is a sculpture of a
box with mirrors on the inside and holes so u can see in and it’s the
illusion of seeing infinity and I think
that’s the reason of potential the depth of how far you can see and this could
be quite nice in an video.

ZEE
Yesterday me jack and tom had a trip to
Liverpool to an expedition at FACT called abandon normal devices which “ZEE” invented be Kurt Hentschlager was being shown
Before we
when I knew quite a little apart from what was said on the internet like people
experience but each one was different and I could get a clear reading on what
it actually was. What I gather it was is a outer body experience, and you will
feel like you are flouting
Before I went
I was a bit of a non-believer and couldn’t get my head around how serial this
thing will be my original thoughts where that there was going to be a puff of
smoke and a bit of a light show
When we
eventually arrived at Liverpool and got to fact, something a bit dodge happened
the guy at the desk was trying to spook use out of it and told use about the
bad side affects that could happen unfortunately this got to tom and jack. I
was having non of it and wanted to go in so I eventually talked jack in to it.
When it was
are time we went down this hall way and yet again this other member of staff
what trying to talk us out of it using all these scar tactics at this point we
couldn’t go back we then strolled in to this pre smoke room it “smelt like
sawdust “
when ever one
got to gather we then went in to the actual ZEE room “BLOODY HELL I WAS WRONG”
I couldn’t see a thing it was just a thick sea of thick fog it was such a weird
feeling then the lights kicked in colors hitting you left right and center it
was all most like a kaleidoscope twirling around in your face
after a while
I let go of the rope and walked to the center it was like swimming in open
water. really strange
after 10
minuets of that I was pretty baffled
when we left
went for lunch visited the Tate gallery and came back to get tom involved
the next
visit didn’t go to plan and probable scared tom. We went in like last and it
was going well the kaleidoscope came back but 5 minutes in tom went missing and
there was an uncomfortable scream it was like some one getting murdered. So me
and jack decided to look for tom luckily tom was fine and was waiting out side
he said he herd the scream and got out of there but apparently some one pasted
out and decided to scream before he hit the floor

kyle coop 1-10
this is one of my 10
important posts i know its not an expedition at a gallery or a museum, and it just
a video on you tube but i found it really use full and it is a really good
insight of artists point of view
as this is the first time i
have created a title sequence i was not sure what to do and i found that kyle
cooper kept cropping up i did some more investigation with in kyle cooper and
he relates to my work in the way he has a healthy mix of digital work and hands
on work he has done over 150 titles some of them are better then the film he is
doing them for
what i had trouble on when
i was creating my title sequence was adding text and finding away how to show
them with in the video he begins to explain how he dose it, he sees the texts
as a tool and should be well planed and intertwine it with the story of the
film and not add the text after creating the title
another aspect that was
interesting he was explaining is the hole trial and error and how that how good
and accurate a computer is. it might not be the right way to go in stead
experiment with other things to try get a similar and or interesting look
and this is quite similar in the way i work in some of my project especially
this title sequence im working on now

redbull
Red Bull Music Academy World Tour:
Amplifying local scenes beyond the beat from Red Bull Music Academy on Vimeo.
this is not any thing
to do with my super 8 project but I’m quite fond of it and looks like my style
of work I quite like the different styles they use and how they bring them to
gather, and all so the time that they must of spent creating it, as I have
looked into light drawing in the past I now know how long it takes
in the description of the
video it says “World
Tour going straight to the heart of today’s most crucial musical movements” and
I think they achieved that by using different medias to simulate different music
movements
when
I was looking thru the red bull campaigns and advertisements I found a red bull
animation were you have to animate around a red bull can unfortunately I didn’t
have time to create a new animation so I used a structure of one of my old
animations and changed it to reveal a red bull can, luckily it worked quite
well all though I didn’t win I did get 590 hits so at least I know people did
see it
